When pressed as to what papers or drawings had been tampered with or possibly stolen, Tesla claimed that no designs of secret weapons technology could be missing, since he kept their plans only in his mind.

Nikola Tesla died in 1943 during the height of the Second World War. Family members rushed to his hotel room to retrieve possessions and papers, but were barred from entering Tesla’s room by government guards. Despite Tesla’s previous claims that his most important designs were kept solely in his mind, federal officials needed two large transport trucks just to handle the loose leaf papers he kept. Additionally, more than one hundred and fifty steamer trunks full of Tesla’s papers and drawings were located in storage facilities.

After years of much scrutiny and examination by government physicists, Tesla’s personal effects and scientific documents were released to his surviving family. Nikola Tesla’s nephew observed that several notebooks containing hundreds of pages of Tesla’s work that he always kept near him were missing. Much knowledge and technological innovation may have been lost in that great mind of Tesla’s and in those notebooks that he had once guarded so closely.

Another sad loss happened in 2011 as technology junkies everywhere said farewell to one of the greatest gadget gurus ever known when Steve Jobs passed away. Diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor in 2003, Jobs would undergo a liver transplant in 2009.

At the time of his death in October, 2011, Steve Jobs was worth an estimated $8.1 billion dollars. Even as one of the richest men in the world, no dollar amount could save Steve Jobs from an untimely death at age 55.
